Striker training drills

Strikers are judged on a handful of moments a game. Everything in this session plan is built around making those moments repeatable: the movement that creates the half-yard, the first touch that sets the shot, and the finish that goes in when your heart rate is at 180.

Work finishing at the end of technical work but before you are exhausted — a tired striker rehearses a tired technique. Add movement and hold-up work in small-sided games where a defender is genuinely trying to stop you.

Common questions

What drills improve finishing the most?
Repeated one- and two-touch finishing from realistic service, with a defender or time pressure added. Volume from a static ball builds a technique you will rarely use in a match.
How do strikers get better at movement in the box?
Rehearse the near-post and back-post runs against a passive defender until the timing is automatic, then add a live defender. Movement is a timing skill, not a speed skill.
