Defender training drills
Defending is a technical skill before it is an attitude. Approach speed, the angle you show the attacker onto, the moment you commit — all coachable, all trainable alone or in pairs.
Add aerial duels, recovery-sprint work and comfort in possession under a two-touch limit and you have a defender modern coaches actually want: someone who can defend the halfway line and start the attack.

Common questions
- How do you get better at 1v1 defending?
- Close the space quickly, then decelerate into a side-on stance a yard and a half away, show the attacker onto their weaker side and be patient. Repeat it live until the approach speed is automatic.
- Should defenders train with the ball at their feet?
- Yes. Playing out under a two-touch limit with a live press is now a core defensive skill, not an extra.
